Why Logistick Created a Recycling Network

Many Logistick products are designed to travel with a shipment, instead of being returned to their point of origin. This one-way model eliminates the need to recover, return, store, and maintain ownership of conventional reusable equipment. 

Reusable load bars can work well in a closed-loop operation, but they become harder to manage when the receiving location is not part of the shipper’s equipment network. A metal load bar may be left behind, lost, stored indefinitely, or shipped back at an additional cost. Reusable equipment provides little operational or environmental value when no practical return process exists.

Logistick’s one-way systems address that problem by traveling with the freight and being recycled at the end of their travel. After removal, qualifying plastic components can enter a recycling stream where local services and material volumes allow.

Logistick’s Recycling Network helps connect the end of one shipment with the next step in the material lifecycle. There is no guarantee that every local recycling program will accept every component. Instead, Logistick’s Network gives customers a practical place to look for a compatible recycling facility when ordinary municipal or commercial recycling programs do not accept these specialized plastics.

Logistick Products Begin With Recycled Material

The product lifecycle starts even before a securement device reaches the loading dock. Logistick manufactures its plastic components using post-industrial recycled material, including recycled ABS and polycarbonate. The products are not simply designed with potential end-of-life recycling in mind. They are made from recycled plastic at the beginning of their useful lives. 

ABS is used in many Logistick products because it can provide the strength, durability, and consistency required for freight securement. Recycled ABS can preserve those useful characteristics while reducing demand for virgin resin. 

Using recycled content does not remove the need for responsible handling after use. A product made from recycled plastic can still become waste if it is mixed with incompatible materials or sent to a facility that cannot process it. This is where separation and recycler coordination become important.

How the Recycling Process Works

The first step is to separate used Logistick plastic products from general trash and other materials. Many of Logistick’s products are made using #7 ABS or polycarbonate plastic, which requires special care and separation from other materials for recycling. 

Remove or separate incompatible components according to the product-specific recycling instructions. Lumber, adhesive, foam, banding, buckles, metal fittings, and plastic components may not all belong in the same recycling stream. 

Next, ask your current commercial recycler whether it accepts separated #7 ABS and polycarbonate streams. Provide clear information about the material, expected volume, condition, and frequency of collection. Do not assume that a facility accepts the material simply because it handles other plastics.

If the recycler accepts it, collect the material in the containers it specifies. Depending on the operation and recycler, this may involve bins, gaylords, or other bulk containers. Once enough material has accumulated, coordinate pickup or delivery directly with the recycling company.

If your current recycler cannot accept the material, use the Logistick Recycling Network to find another possible outlet.

What the Recycling Network Map Provides

The Recycling Network page maintains a directory of recycling contacts concentrated in the Midwest that can process some or all Logistick product components. Each listing includes an address and contact information so shippers can discuss their material directly with the recycler.

The map should be treated as a starting point for coordination rather than a universal drop-off guarantee. Before shipping or delivering material, contact the listed company and confirm:

• Which Logistick product components it accepts
• Whether ABS and polycarbonate must be separated
• How clean the material needs to be
• What packaging or containers are required
• Whether minimum volumes apply
• Whether appointments or advance documentation are required

Some recycling partners may be set up for separated Gaylords or truckload quantities rather than small individual returns. A shipper with limited volume may need to accumulate material over time, work with a local recycler, or coordinate with other facilities in its network.

What Happens to the Recycled Plastic?

After the plastic is dropped off, what happens next depends on the recycling company. In a typical mechanical recycling process, accepted plastic is sorted, cleaned as needed, reduced into smaller pieces, and prepared as recycled feedstock. That material may then be compounded or used in the manufacture of new plastic products.

Recycling as Part of a Larger Sustainability Strategy

The Recycling Network is one piece of how Logistick approaches environmental responsibility, and it depends on everything that comes before it. Freight that arrives undamaged keeps product and packaging out of landfills and removes the need for replacement manufacturing and a second shipment. The devices doing that work are made from post-industrial recycled resin, so material that already had one life is what holds the load in place. The Recycling Network gives that material somewhere to go after the trailer is unloaded, rather than leaving recovery as an open question at the end of the trip.

On 04/25/2025, our dedicated Secure Green Team, comprising employees from both Logistick and SPI, took to the LaSalle Trail and the neighboring Indiana-Michigan River Valley Trail for a local cleanup effort. These trails, which run adjacent to our headquarters and manufacturing facility, are vital green spaces that connect communities and promote outdoor recreation.  

During the one-hour cleanup, our team collected multiple five-gallon buckets and trash bags filled with litter from the trails and surrounding areas. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and our belief in taking actionable steps to protect and preserve our local ecosystems.
